More Celebration Rotation Learning....

Today Room 9 continued with their Celebration Rotation. They went to Room 7 where they focused on a Mexican craft and made an item of Mexican food.

After lunch they moved to Room 8 where they focussed on Birthdays.

Room 9: Your Mission...
Tell me all about it! What did you learn about different cultures and how they celebrate. How did the Gods Eye and food you made relate to our celebrations unit.
P.S. Sorry I couldn't post all of your fabulous photos, but you did take some very good shots to show us your learning.

Celebration Rotation

This week Room 9 will be moving around the different teachers in our syndicate to experience a variety of celebrations and related activities.
Todaythey went to Mrs Coutts in Room 10 for an hour and learnt about Hanukkah, the Jewish celebration.
Later on in the afternoon they went to Mrs Llewellyn in Room 6 and looked more closely at a Scottish tradition.
Miss Shaw gave the camera to the class so they could take some photos of what they did in each class.

Room 9-Your Mission: Please tell me which photos you took and what they contain. Secondly, reflect on your new learning while with the other teachers. Remember to tell me some details about the celebration and how your activity was related.

Fractions- Parts of a Whole

During maths we have been learning how to:
*recognise fraction symbols for halves, thirds, quarters, fifths,
*find fractions of a set e.g. what is half of 18?
*changing improper fractions to proper fractions e.g. 12/3 = 4 and 1/3
*identifying decimals to 3 decimal places.

We have talked about the top number and the bottom number in fraction symbols and how fractions are "parts of the whole".

As our maths books are getting quite full, and it was a lovely day, we decided to show off all of our new learning about fractions by drawing them all over the concrete outside our room.

Room 9-your mission: Tell us what your new learning has been while looking at fractions. Also tell us what activity you enjoyed the best: the mimio fractions or the concrete fractions.

Vegetable Soup

Last friday Kowhai Syndicate made hot soup! The soup was a creation we made using the vegetables that we planted last term.
Room 9 planted bok choy and and spring onions in their wedge of the circle garden on the 20th May. The vegetables were planted as part of our Healthy Eating and Sustainability unit.

For some of us, it was the first time that we had grown vegetables and made fresh soup.
Room 9, your mission: Please comment on any aspects of this process that were new to you and what you enjoyed the most.
It would also be good if you can comment about healthy food and how you have made any changes to what you eat because of your new learning.
