Maths- Slide, Flip and Turn.

Today we looked at sliding , flipping and turning.
We started by asking "What do we already know about slide, flip and turn?"
We wrote our responses on sticky notes to then look at it again later on to see how much we have learnt.
Miss Shaw showed us the three ways we can move objects, then we completed a couple of activities to help us remember and get better at sliding , flipping and turning.
We then chose an object from the foam shape container and traced it onto paper. We then slid it along the paper and retraced it, to show how it moved. We then either chose turn or flip as our second option and also showed that on a sheet of paper.
The year 4 kids also looked at rotation, translation, and reflection.

Here are some online games to help you get better Room 9

Garden to Table

Today Kowhai Syndicate used the vegetables from the garden to make some tasty treats. Each class made a different item of food using the produce we harvested from the garden.
All the kids in Room 9 helped make our Marmite and Lettuce, and Mayonaise and Lettuce sandwhiches.
Room 6 made Beetroot and carrot crackers.
Room 7 made Parsley Pesto.
Room 8 made spinach raita.
Room 9 as above
Room 10 egyptian red beetroot dip.

Room 9 please tell me what you have learnt and what you enjoyed about today. You may even want to tell me how you helped in our little production line:-)

Writing: Newspaper Reports HOMEWORK

We have been looking at non-fiction texts and how to write a newspaper report.
For your week 4 homework I would like the Room 9 children to write a newspaper report using the interactive website that we used in class.
Once you have finished writing your report and adding in those cool pictures, please print it or email to Miss Shaw.

P.S Can you remember what features/types of words you use in a piece of writing like this? What is the social purpose?

Globalisation: Commonwealth Games and Communication.

This term we have begun looking at Globalisation.
Our first activity was to show Miss Shaw what we thought this topic was all about. We placed our topic banner on the floor and set off to find images that we thought might be related to our topic. This showed Miss Shaw what we already knew.

Today we then began looking at the following statement:
We live in an interconnected and interdependent world.

What does this mean for Room 9 students?
How do we know?
What evidence do we have?
Why do we?

Room 9, please post a response to the questions above.
